Haggai: Building for God’s Glory
Haggai was a prophet sent by God to awaken the people of his day to the ruin that God’s house lay in. The people were stirred to begin the project of rebuilding the temple so that God would again dwell in a powerful, present way with his people and so that the nations would have a place to see their hope.
God is about the work of redemption, reconciliation and restoration in his creation. As such, God is on mission. For that mission he has a Church. Though it is Jesus alone who can ultimately build his Church, he graciously invites us to be a part of this glorious undertaking. The temple in Haggai’s day was a temple made of brick and stone. The true temple of God is now his body of believers, his people. We must be about the work of building God’s church alongside him for his pleasure, his glory and the hope of the world.
